Capture. Mark up. Done.

Hokaku snaps any region, window, or full screen straight from your menu bar — then hands you arrows, shapes, highlights, text, and redaction to make your point. Copy or save in a keystroke. A fast, native markup tool built for macOS.

Everything you need to make your point.

Not a heavyweight image editor. A fast, native menu-bar tool that goes from capture to marked-up-and-copied before the moment passes.

📸

Lives in your menu bar

No Dock icon, no window to hunt for. Click the menu-bar icon, drag a region, grab a window, or take the whole screen — then it opens ready to annotate.

⏱️

Timed capture

Start a countdown, then open a menu or hover a tooltip — the dimmed overlay turns click-through and fires with that vanishing UI still on screen.

⌨️

Familiar shortcuts

Capture with the keys you already know — ⇧⌘3, ⇧⌘4, and ⇧⌘5 for full screen, region, and window — plus ⇧⌘E to reopen the editor without capturing.

➡️

The full annotation set

Filled arrows, straight lines, rectangles, rounded rectangles, ovals, a highlighter, and text — everything you reach for to point something out.

🔒

Redact before you share

Pixelate or blur any region to hide tokens, emails, or faces — baked into the exported pixels, not a removable overlay.

🎵

Signature pink

The unmistakable pink stroke is the default the moment you start drawing — with red, yellow, blue, black, and white a click away.

Edit, don't redo

Select, move, and resize any mark with handles. Change its color or line width after the fact. Full undo and redo behind every change.

Crop to what matters

Trim the capture down with a floating glass confirm bar — Return applies, Escape backs out. No modal, no fuss.

🎨

True-to-pixel color

Captures at full native resolution in Display P3 with ScreenCaptureKit, and exports P3-tagged PNGs — the colors you saw are the colors you get.

Liquid Glass, natively

Built in SwiftUI and AppKit with a real Liquid Glass toolbar on macOS 26, and clean material fallbacks all the way back to Sonoma.

One keystroke out

Copy straight to the clipboard with ⌘C or save a PNG with ⌘S. Paste it into Slack, a doc, or an email before you've moved your hand.

🖥️

One tidy window

A single reusable editor. A new capture takes over the same window — and asks first if you've got unsaved marks. No pile-up of stray windows.

🖼️

Recent captures

A drawer beside Save slides out your last 10 shots. Click a thumbnail to reopen one in the editor, or dismiss the ones you're done with.

🛠️

Native & lightweight

100% Swift, no Electron, no background bloat. It launches instantly and stays out of the way until you need it.

🔑

Private by design

Everything happens on your Mac. No account, no cloud upload, no analytics. Your screenshots never leave the machine.

A tool for every kind of markup.

Pick a tool, drag it out, tweak it. Each one carries its own color and line width, and every mark stays editable.

Arrow Line Rectangle Rounded Rectangle Oval Highlighter Text Pixelate Blur Crop

Your screenshots never leave your Mac.

Hokaku has no server, no account system, and no analytics SDK. It captures, annotates, and exports entirely on your machine. Copying to the clipboard or saving a PNG is the only time your image goes anywhere — and that's you, pasting it exactly where you meant to.

It's not on the Mac App Store, because native screen capture needs Screen Recording access the App Sandbox won't grant. Instead it's signed and notarized directly with Apple using a Developer ID certificate, so the permission you grant sticks across updates.
